What Up?

Today is the Autumnal Equinox, Tuesday, September 23, 2014. I just spent the last weekend out at the 57th Annual Monterey Jazz Festival, an event I’ve been covering since 1991 as a journalist. Before that I attended sporadically, probably the only time I really remember was back in 1967 and 1968 when I was interested to hear Janis Joplin and Sly and the Family Stone. These were post Monterey International Pop Festival interests that translated to my discovering jazz as a teenager. MJF is always a great hang, seeing folks from all over the place, not only all the musicians and industry folks I’ve come to know and appreciate, but mostly my fellow jazz journalists and long time hometown friends. Just prior to the festival I returned home from a ten day trip to Europe and I was swept into the vortex of trip recovery and house cleaning in preparation for entertaining friends as they came into town for the fest. So I never had the time to post here my pre-festival coverage published over the past few weeks in the Herald. So here are the two links associated with festival coverage up till now.

I’ve finally got the photo gallery for MJF 2014 up and you can find it by hovering over Photo Gallery in the navigation bar and clicking on the Monterey Jazz Festival tab that appears. Also, please click on the more button below to continue hearing what’s coming up here in the near future.

It’s been a busy time for me and I’ve been unable to devote much time to the building out of this site. But I do see this shifting into a more active blog development time for me. I’d like to introduce travel and fashion features, as well as add interesting artists and musicians into the Virtual Village section. I’m going to begin to extend my Monterey Herald column here, starting with the photo story on the 57th Annual Monterey Jazz Festival, and then as the time allows I’ll be adding in coverage of the Santa Cruz/San Francisco music and entertainment scene. So keep coming back to see how things are developing. Thanks for reading!!
